In 2019, the Los Angeles Angels re-signed center fielder Mike Trout to a record-breaking $426 million contract, landing the best player in the sport for another 12 years. Now, with Trout’s popularity at an absolute fever pitch, a holy host of Angels fans are eager to learn as much as they can about their team’s heavenly hitter.
The only problem? Trout is currently so in demand it’s hard to find the time to make the content fans crave. Fox Sports West and the Angels approached Lineage Digital for a creative, time-efficient solution to satisfy the public’s insatiable Trout appetite while working around his busy schedule.
We proposed a six-part series called “About Trout,” made up of 1-2 minute interviews where Trout could share little things, like funny anecdotes and childhood memories, with his adoring fans. These interviews could be recorded on the road or in the hotel, anywhere or any time it would be convenient for him. That solved the problem with Trout’s busy schedule, but it presented a whole new challenge: how do you get maximum impact out of a mini-sized interview?
We rose to that challenge in two easy steps:
In July 2019, Fox Sports West posted the first episode of “About Trout” across their social media platforms, amassing over 191K views across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and subsequent episodes have garnered tens of thousands of views across platforms. The series has been so well-received that Fox Sports West has gone on to air the full episodes during their live telecasts. They’ve even printed “About Trout” T-shirts for merchandising.
